Were the new apartments built with sustainability in mind?

Our aim is for construction of the new buildings to be certified in accordance with the Swedish Green Building Council Miljöbyggnad Silver requirements, which sets higher standards than those required by law. Among other measures, this involves consuming much less energy than is necessary during construction. Miljöbyggnad is an environmental classification system for the construction and property sector which, unlike the Swan Ecolabel, for example, includes post-construction inspections in order to ensure the buildings satisfy requirements when they are put into service.

During construction, there are 15 indicators to be reviewed throughout the project, from programming to certification. Some of these are below:

  • The energy consumed by the buildings will be 25 percent lower than the BBR (National Board of Housing, Building and Planning) building regulations.
  • Water consumption in the buildings must be low.
  • Constructions and designs must be moisture-proof.
  • Construction materials are documented.
  • Hazardous substances are phased out.
  • A maximum of five percent of the construction waste goes to landfill.
We will use land which has already been utilised, and the former garage and boiler house will be replaced by accommodation.
  • There is a bicycle workshop in the multi-family buildings, in order to promote green transport.
  • Urban farming will be provided on premises by the square.
